Art Garfunkel famously keeps track of the books he has read since 1968. As of writing this, the count is 1327 (he does not add a review). I thought I could do something similar but I am adding short reviews of books as I read them, and I rake my brain over what I read over the last decades. This is, evidently, a work-in-progress: there are 649 reviews so far. Titles marked with a * are particular favorites.

Dolores Hitchens: Sleep with slander

Out of the unknown, I stumbled upon Ms Hitchen,s who wrote many books under many names. A large chunk is rumoured to be ‘cosy capers’, but the two about the Los Angeles detective Jim Sader are great, and very much on the level of Chandler and Hammett. Perhaps the reasons she is not better known are, or could be, that she is a woman, and also that her detective is quite featureless. We know little about him in the end. What we do know is that the plot is both believable, very dark, and has many surprises in store, but always, always logical ones.
